HelloFresh research* reveals New Zealand households have made remarkable progress in reducing food waste in the past year, cutting the annual amount wasted by an estimated $300 million, which is equivalent to feeding 536,000 Kiwis for a year. The findings come as rugby legend Portia Woodman-Wickliffe teams up with HelloFresh and national food rescue charity KiwiHarvest once again for a âteam talkâ on Kiwis' food waste habits as we get closer to the 2030 deadline for our national targets. Since partnering with HelloFresh in 2023, Portia Woodman-Wickliffe has been actively championing the reduction of household food waste and applauds the significant efforts of Kiwi households.
KiwiHarvest has been at the forefront of food rescue efforts in New Zealand, helping to bridge the gap between surplus food and those in need. By collecting and redistributing surplus food that would otherwise go to waste, they provide vital nourishment to vulnerable communities while helping to reduce the environmental impact of food waste. Since 2012, Kiwi Harvest has rescued over 13 million kilograms of food and prevented significant amounts of greenhouse gas emissions from being released into the atmosphere. Their work not only feeds thousands of families but also promotes sustainable food practices that are critical to the future of New Zealand.
